Reading From Book Versus eBook: Inflexible Learners or Electronic Text’s Poor Cognitive Ergonomics?

This paper describes a case study of undergraduates performing the reading/writing task of summarising a book chapter in both paper and Web formats. The aim of the research was not to question whether books should be paper or electronic, but to consider how either presentation medium might best satisfy a particular intellectual task, in a particular context.
